About This Tour

Discover a wilder and more adventurous side of Rio de Janeiro on the Rio Wild Beaches Hiking Adventure, a nature experience that combines coastal scenery, hiking trails, secluded beaches, ocean views, and preserved landscapes far from the city’s most famous tourist routes.

The tour starts in Barra de Guaratiba, in Rio’s West Zone, where we begin the trail toward Praia do Perigoso. This route is part of the Barra de Guaratiba x Grumari trail, one of the most scenic coastal hiking routes in the region, connecting wild beaches, Atlantic Forest vegetation, rocky viewpoints, and beautiful ocean landscapes.

Praia do Perigoso is one of Rio’s most beautiful wild beaches, known for its more secluded atmosphere, natural surroundings, and clear connection with the preserved coastline of Barra de Guaratiba. The beach can only be accessed by trail or by boat, which helps keep its remote and adventurous character.

The hike to Praia do Perigoso is considered moderate and follows a natural trail with uneven terrain, exposed sections, uphill and downhill stretches, and scenic views along the way. The round-trip route is approximately 4.2 km and usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete, depending on the group’s pace, weather, and trail conditions. It is recommended for travelers with a reasonable fitness level who enjoy active outdoor adventures.

At Praia do Perigoso, you will have time to relax by the sea, swim when conditions are safe, and take in the beauty of one of Rio’s most special wild beaches. Surrounded by mountains, native vegetation, and a more remote coastal atmosphere, this is a wonderful escape from the busier beaches of the city.

For those who want to extend the adventure, the hike to Pedra da Tartaruga can be included as an optional experience, depending on the group’s interest, physical condition, timing, and weather. Located in the Barra de Guaratiba region, Pedra da Tartaruga is known for its turtle-like rock formation and panoramic views over Praia do Perigoso, the surrounding wild beaches, mountains, and Rio’s western coastline.

The experience may also include a scenic drive through Rio’s western coastline, passing beautiful beach areas such as Barra da Tijuca, Reserva, Recreio, Prainha, and Grumari, depending on logistics and traffic conditions.

Designed for travelers who love nature, beaches, hiking, and off-the-beaten-path experiences, this tour is a memorable way to discover a more preserved and adventurous side of Rio.

Traveler Reviews

We had the most amazing private tour of Rio with Monique. Her passion for the city, its people and its culture is infectious, her intimate knowledge makes the tour so authentically Rio and we managed to skip lines and avoid the big crowds due to her organisation! She also took us to an amazing bar she has been going to for 13 years and the feijoada and caipirinhas were the best in the city.
If you want to experience the true Rio you neeeeeeeeed to do it with Monique!! A real highlight of our South America adventure. Check it out on Google Reviews.
