About This Tour
Discover a different side of Rio de Janeiro with a boat and walking tour through Gigóia Island, a hidden gem in Barra da Tijuca often described as Rio’s urban pantanal.
Your experience begins with a scenic boat ride through the island’s canals and surrounding lagoon area, where lush vegetation and calm waters create a surprising natural refuge in the middle of the city.
Along the way, you may spot local wildlife such as capybaras, caimans, and native birds, depending on the day’s conditions.
After the boat ride, continue on foot to explore the island’s quiet paths and local atmosphere. This walking experience offers a closer look at everyday life in one of Rio’s most unusual neighborhoods, where boats replace cars in many areas and nature feels deeply woven into the rhythm of the community.
For those who would like to extend the experience, Gigóia is also a great place to enjoy lunch by the water at one of its charming local restaurants, including a Michelin Guide-listed option in the island area. Meal cost is not included.
Perfect for travelers seeking hidden gems in Rio de Janeiro, this tour combines nature, local culture, and an off-the-beaten-path perspective on the city.

Traveler Reviews
We had the most amazing private tour of Rio with Monique. Her passion for the city, its people and its culture is infectious, her intimate knowledge makes the tour so authentically Rio and we managed to skip lines and avoid the big crowds due to her organisation! She also took us to an amazing bar she has been going to for 13 years and the feijoada and caipirinhas were the best in the city.
If you want to experience the true Rio you neeeeeeeeed to do it with Monique!! A real highlight of our South America adventure. Check it out on Google Reviews.
